K-12

Workforce development begins early, on a strong foundation provided by the award-winning schools of Daviess County’s K-12 systems, including four leading public and private school corporations. Small class sizes plus an inviting small town atmosphere provide a welcoming educational environment where students acquire critical thinking skills and authentic knowledge through project-based learning and other enriching innovations. High school graduation rates average 95%, a rate higher than the state and national averages, and Daviess County students graduate college and/or career-ready through a variety of career and higher learning pathways, including dual enrollment. As a National Education Foundation STEM Award Recipient in 2020, Barr-Reeve’s STEM Academy places in-demand skillsets within grasp of all Barr-Reeve students.

In 2019, North Daviess Community Schools was one of the first school districts to be recognized as a Fully Endorsed Early College Provider. With the Early College Program, students can graduate from North Daviess with an Associate’s degree placing them a step ahead in securing the skillsets needed to compete in tomorrow’s workforce.

As Daviess County’s Career and Technical Education Cooperative, Twin Rivers offers a variety of training to high school students whether through direct instruction, work-based learning, or partnerships with Ivy Tech or Vincennes University.

The region’s powerhouse industrial trainer, VU provides workforce training customized to spec for qualified companies and projects, while also developing a regional workforce of broad-based skill and mental agility through a variety of programs and career opportunities, including:

This associate degree of science prepares students for diverse working situations, from automotive assembly and supply to manufacture of consumer goods and electronic devices, to packaging and transportation and more.

At VU’s Haas Technical Education Center for CNC machine training, students learn through hands-on CNC instruction with industry-standard Haas machines and other related equipment, developing top-flight skills to produce metal parts for a variety of industrial sectors.

This accelerated 16-week program prepares trainees for industrial maintenance or machine service with an emphasis on machine tool, robotics, and automation maintenance.

Supported by the state of Indiana, the NextLevel Jobs program provides full tuition for eligible students pursuing credit-bearing certificates in crucial areas, including

Catapult Manufacturing Training Program

As one of eight counties in the Radius Region, Daviess County employers have access to the Catapult Manufacturing Training Program. This intensive four-week academic certification program provides accelerated development of performance and skills for entry-level employment of advanced manufacturing; students earn while they learn, receiving paid classroom instruction combined with hands-on training and simulations, culminating in direct employment or internship opportunities. The industry-created curriculum covers nine core competencies, including:

  • Lean manufacturing
  • Analytic troubleshooting
  • Statistical process control
  • Problem solving

WestGate Academy Conference and Training Center

Located in Westgate@Crane Technology Park, the WestGate Academy serves as a critical multifunctional resource—as a training center for local employers, as a go-to space for co-working and research, and as an inviting regional events center.
